BA Macq, LL B Sydney, MSc Oxf, FAICD, FIML CMgr, FAHRI
Mark has extensive experience advising senior management and Boards, and representing corporations and government entities, on a broad range of complex employment law and industrial relations issues. His strong background in corporate governance ensures he brings a strategic approach to resolving tough issues with positive, sustainable outcomes for employers and their workforce.
Mark holds a law degree from Sydney University, a degree in behavioural sciences and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations from Oxford University. The overlapping nature of these disciplines has provided him with unique skills that combine expert legal insight with keen interests in corporate governance, human resources, and knowledge of the industrial and strategic issues faced by modern enterprises.
After working as a solicitor and barrister in Sydney and London, Mark fell in love with the Far North Queensland region after a holiday to the area in 1989. He moved to Cairns in 1991 to join MacDonnells Law where, as partner, he established the firm’s state-wide employment law and workplace relations practice, managing a team of eight professionals.
Mark has held numerous board and committee positions with a number of Far North Queensland institutions, and since 2014 has been a member of the CQ University Council. He regularly undertakes voluntary and pro bono work for various regional not-for-profit and charitable organisations. He was recently appointed as a Queensland Law Society Senior Councillor.
After 28 years in the region, Mark has developed an intimate understanding of the particular issues experienced by employers in the Cairns and North Queensland region. It’s this understanding which led to the establishment of Peters Bosel Lawyers (then Mark Peters Lawyers) in 2010.
“I’m interested in assisting workplaces to become places where both employers and employees are happy and committed for their mutual benefit,” says Mark. “In a regional area like this, it’s important for a business to have a reputation as a great place to work.”
“What motivates and excites me is that, through the work of Peters Bosel, we can have a very positive influence by advising and representing employers so as to get the best outcomes in their workplaces through establishing good practices that not only protect their best interests as employers, but afford employees fairness and natural justice.”
